Book a ConsultationWhat Are the 4Cs?
The 4Cs — Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight — are internationally recognized characteristics used to evaluate a diamond. Understanding each factor helps you choose the right balance of beauty, quality and value.
1. Cut
Cut determines how effectively a diamond interacts with light. Excellent proportions can create exceptional brightness, fire and scintillation.
2. Color
Diamond color grades describe how colorless a diamond appears. Stones closer to colorless are generally rarer, while warmer grades may offer excellent value.
3. Clarity
Clarity evaluates natural internal characteristics known as inclusions and external characteristics known as blemishes. Many are microscopic and difficult to see without magnification.
4. Carat
Carat measures diamond weight rather than physical diameter. One carat equals 0.20 grams. Size, proportions and shape all influence how large a diamond appears.
Why the 4Cs Matter
Finding the right diamond is about balancing the four characteristics according to your style, priorities and budget.
